From a distance the birds shake with action simultaneously anticipated and suspended.  Up close, lines and marks shift forward, blurring boundaries while sharpening edges. The birds shoot upward – like they are flying. They oscillate between placidity and agitation.  Staring directly into the birds’ eyes causes the paintings to flatten out and the shapes to get heavy.

Nearby, puzzle-like compositions of linen-wrapped wood shapes act as a type of three-dimensional drawing with each frame serving as a literal tray for its contents.
